Dehradun: Chief minister Harish Rawat on Sunday announced that state government will set up a first-of-its-kind revolving fund of Rs.10 crore for the welfare of more than 3000 children who were turned orphans and became homeless after the last flood fury.
This announcement came over two weeks after Rawat visited Kedarnath to monitor the re-building works.
Rawat said Rs 5 crore each will be spent on their education and to create avenues of self-employment. The chief minister also made it clear that he has asked the state chief secretary N Ravi Shankar and other top officials to begin the process of constituting the revolving fund.
The minister also appreciated the efforts by the local NGO DHATT for reaching out to several kids who became homeless after the flash floods. Rawat said he was deeply influenced by the way the NGO members went to any extent to provide homes to these kids.
Rawat said apart from creating separate revolving funds for these kids, his government will chalk out modalities to provide other facilities to these children.
Rawat clarified that state government will treat these homeless children as the kids of state and go to any extent to make them feel that state government was their ultimate guardian.
